Stuart Skelton in Title Role of Met's Season Premiere of Otello 

AMERICAN TENOR Carl Tanner has been tapped by the Metropolitan Opera to sing the title role in tonight's season premiere performance of Verdi's Otello, the house announced today. Tanner, who will make his Met role debut with the performance, replaces Stuart Skelton, who is ill.
Tanner made his house debut as Dick Johnson in 2010 Met performances of Fanciulla del West and has gone on to sing RadamΓ¨s and Turiddu at the Met. Recently, he has sung the role of RadamΓ¨s at Washington National Opera, Otello at the Grand Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona and Tabarro's Luigi at the Royal Opera House. Earlier this season, he sang Otello at the Bolshoi and Finland's Savonlinna Festival.   
The Otello performances, which will be conducted by Gustavo Dudamel in his Met debut, also feature Sonya Yoncheva as Desdemona, Jennifer Johnson Cano as Emilia, Alexey Dolgov as Cassio, Ε½eljko LučiΔ‡ as Iago and James Morris as Lodovico. spacer

Ghana Deports 17 Nigerian 'Yahoo Boys'

No fewer than 17 Nigerians have been deported from Ghana for allegedly committing offences in the country, involving in cyber crimes, known in Nigeria as 'Yahoo Yahoo'. According to the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), it said 29 people were arrested in Ho, the Volta Regional capital but 17 were found involved in criminal activities. The Ho Municipal Police Commander, DSP Anthony Danso, said after their arrest, they immediately handed the suspects over to immigration service to determine their status and finding shows that only 12 out of the 29 Nigerians were found to be legal residents of Ho. Danso continued that those that were found to be legal residents were immediately freed to continue their various work and activities, adding that some house owners in the country are afraid to lease their apartments to some Nigerians. Item recovered by the police are 20 mobile phones, 33 laptops, two television sets and other electronic gadgets.
